Spiritual Gifts - A Ministry for My Life

"May I Serve You Please"
Romans 12:1-8

1. Helping: (Romans 12:7)
A. Definition: The ability to assist and serve other people.
B. Characteristics of a servant or helper:
1. Cares more for the needs of others than themselves.
2. Likes to do the 'unpopular' job.
3. Enjoy helping others so that they can have it a little easier.
4. Does the unimportant job.
5. Does not mind when nobody notices what they do.
2. Encouraging: (Romans 12:8)
A. Definition: The ability to support people and help them to regain hope.
B. Characteristics of an encourager:
1. People talk to them when they have a problem.
2. They are known for their positive attitude.
3. They help sad people feel better.
4. Others are encouraged after talking to them.
5. Greatest enjoyment in life is when people are happier after talking to them.
3. Giving: (Romans 12:8)
A. Definition: The ability to give your time and money so that it can be used for God's work.
B. Characteristics of a giver:
1. Want to give money to those who need it.
2. Gets a real kick out of giving to others.
3. Smart with their money, so there is extra to give to others.
4. Believes that if they give, that God will more than meet their needs.
5. Have given money or possessions to those who needed them more.
4. Teaching: (1 Corinthians 12:28)
A. Definition: The ability to teach the Bible in such a way that people learn and grow.
B. Characteristics of a teacher:
1. Enjoy explaining the Bible to other people.
2. Like studying the Bible so they can explain it better.
3. Like learning and studying for themselves as well.
4. Can show others what different ideas in the Bible mean.
5. Can show others how to find answers on their own.
5. Pastoring: (1 Peter 5:1-8)
A. Definition: The ability to effectively guide and care for people in their walk with God.
B. Characteristics of a person with the gift of pastoring:
1. Like to help others know God better.
2. Like to pray for and with others.
3. Want to lead a Bible study sometime.
4. Like to serve other people to show that God cares for them.
5. Look to help people who are not as close to God and then help them get closer.
