Romans 5:1&2

AccessJesus, A unique name by any other name, but one the Lord gave me almost 4 years ago. It all started one night while I was working the late shift at my former employer's. I had just stepped away from my desk to take a short break. During these times I would walk to the far end of the floor where the break room was located. On the way back to my desk I stopped off at one of the balconies on the fifteenth floor to get some fresh air and to catch a view of the city lights of downtown Atlanta. As I rounded a corner returning to my desk, I happened to look up and see the outside casing (box) for Microsoft Access.

From my point of view as I walked by looking at the key, it appeared to me to have the shape of a cross in it. My thoughts turned to the Cross and it dawned on me; Yes! The Cross! The Cross is Key! Until we come to the cross of Christ and leave our sins there (as Jesus did for the world) we will never have access to the kingdom of Heaven. There is only one door into heaven and that door is Jesus. Without the repentance of our sins, we will never receive the key, which is salvation through and by Jesus. Jesus Christ has already provided the access for us and now we only have to receive it from Him. I am so glad for the Cross, because on that day He took away the sins of all humanity for all time.

That brings us to the foundational verse of AccessJesus, Romans 5: 1-2. Let's look at it together:

  1. Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
  2. through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.
        Romans 5: 1-2 (NIV)

Powerful words from our Lord and ones that I believe we all need to understand in a real and personal way. "Being justified by faith", Faith in what? Faith in Christ and the forgiveness he provided for you and me on the cross many hundreds of years ago. Blessing us with the "peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ", the peace we have because we believe that Jesus is Lord and have been cleansed from sin. We not only have peace with God through Jesus' shed blood but we have peace because we now know where our eternal home shall be. Jesus has wiped our sins clean forever and ever. Sin and death are eternally conquered.

"Through whom also we have access", access to what? To God the Father, heaven, his righteous blessings, and most of all His forgiving and unconditional love. How is this possible? "By faith into this grace in which we now stand", it is by the faith and trust we have in Christ to forgive us of our sins. Accepting Jesus' forgiveness stands us directly under His flow of grace so when He looks upon us He sees us as His children and no longer as sinners.

How about you friend? Do you have access to an eternity in heaven through Jesus? If you're not sure, don't wait any longer. Have the peace that only Jesus can provide. Let today be the day that you start to live a life of victory. Come to the cross of Christ. Ask Jesus into your heart and leave behind your sins today. Jesus reached out to the world over 2000 years ago, and is still doing so today.
